About the Role:
An NGO based in Ile-Ife is urgently seeking a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Officer to lead community-level engagement in GBV prevention, response, and case management. The GBV Officer will be responsible for ensuring a multi-sectoral and survivor-centered approach to GBV prevention and response services. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in community mobilization, capacity building, and coordination with key stakeholders, including health, legal, psychosocial, and protection service providers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead community engagement and mobilization on GBV prevention and response, including awareness campaigns and capacity-building activities.
- Oversee GBV case management and ensure a survivor-centered approach in handling cases.
- Coordinate multi-sectoral responses, including health, psychosocial support, legal aid, and security services for survivors.
- Develop and implement GBV prevention strategies, including risk mitigation measures and community-led initiatives.
- Provide technical support and training to local service providers, community leaders, and stakeholders on GBV response mechanisms.
- Establish and strengthen referral pathways to ensure timely access to comprehensive care for survivors.
- Conduct data collection, documentation, and reporting while maintaining strict confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Work closely with law enforcement agencies, health workers, and legal support services to improve access to justice and survivor protection.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of GBV programs and recommend necessary improvements.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies/Gender and Development, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, Law, or any related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in GBV case management, survivor-centered care, and community-level GBV interventions.
- Strong knowledge of GBV guiding principles, survivor-centered approaches, and case management best practices.
- Experience working with GBV referral systems, legal aid, and psychosocial support services.
- Demonstrated ability to engage local communities, traditional leaders, and service providers in GBV prevention and response.
- Familiarity with multi-sectoral coordination frameworks, including collaboration with health, legal, and protection actors.
- Strong skills in facilitation, training, and community outreach.
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience in GBV data collection and analysis.
- Fluency in English and local languages relevant to the project location is highly desirable.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Strong understanding of cultural and gender dynamics in GBV programming.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality.
