Being a part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen community awareness and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), advocacy visits were conducted across communities in the Ajegunle and Isinmi axis ahead of a proposed sensitization programme.

In Ajegunle, the team paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Ajegunle, where the purpose of the engagement was clearly outlined. The Oba was informed of the planned community sensitization programme aimed at increasing awareness on GBV, strengthening response mechanisms, and educating residents on their rights. The importance of inclusive participation ensuring that women, men, youth, traditional leaders, and other community groups are adequately represented was also emphasized. The Oba expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment to addressing GBV and welcomed the initiative, noting his readiness to host the programme in the community.
At Isinmi Elemoogun, the team met with notable residents, who explained that the Baale was unavailable at the time of the visit. They, however, assured the team that the information would be duly communicated to him. Discussions during the visit focused on GBV awareness and prevention. While community members indicated that no GBV incidents had been reported in the area, it was emphasized that the engagement is a preventive strategy designed to raise awareness and forestall future occurrences.
The engagement continued at Isinmi Olootu, where the team met with the Oba of Isinmi Olootu. The forthcoming sensitization programme was discussed, with emphasis on improving community knowledge, prevention, and response to GBV. The Oba received the initiative positively but highlighted the significant distance between Ajegunle and Isinmi Olootu communities. He therefore suggested holding separate sensitization sessions to ensure meaningful participation. The team welcomed the suggestion and assured him of further communication on the arrangements.
Consequently, the sensitization programme has been structured into two clusters to accommodate accessibility and effective participation. The Ajegunle cluster sensitization will hold at 1:00 pm, while the Isinmi Olootu cluster sensitization will take place at 10:00 am, both on the same day.
These engagements reaffirm the commitment to inclusive community participation and proactive prevention of Gender-Based Violence through awareness, education, and strengthened local response mechanisms
